August 16, 2012 3.5I attended Hofstra University and received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and graduated in May 2009. It was a great school, and I still play with the guitarist I met during my jazz group. It has a good education program but there are no teaching jobs. It is heavily focuses in opera, so if you want to do jazz or anything else it really stifles that desire. I did not even start writing my own music until after I had graduated.
Since graduating, I play my own original music, but I am struggling to get a full time teaching job. I have a part time teaching job at a really bad school in Brooklyn.
My best advice? To not slack off. To practice. To get multiple internships. To start working on what it is you want to do, in conjuction with what you have to learn and get done. To never give up on your dreams!
Debt Accrued: $5,001 - $10,000
Found work after graduation? Yes
