August 15, 2012 3.5I went to Angelo State University for a degree in Radio/TV/Film and graduated with highest university honors, and Cum Laude.
I learned a lot of things while in school, but I learned so much more working for the school TV Station (Ram TV6). Also, I went to school to learn about radio, not TV or film, and there was a whole whopping ONE class which dealt with radio. I had to pretty much start from scratch at my current job equipment wise. The only thing school prepared me for was voice work.
Since graduation, I am very blessed with this job I have at StudioStream. I am a DJ for all of the Sonic Drive-Ins.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. I tried other jobs outside of radio and TV and I honestly can’t stand them.
Here’s what I tell friends: make sure that it is what you want to do, you aren’t going to get the good jobs until you have tons of experience on things that you do for free, and if you are a TV/Film maker then be prepared to get a different job for a while to save up for all the cameras and equipment that everyone expects you to have. Please don’t start making wedding films after school, that’s a cop out.
Debt Accrued: $10,001 - $25,000
Found work after graduation? Yes
